What this quote means is, when you do something right, people will recognize what you've done, They might even acknowledge what you have done by telling you in word or in a action. For example if you clean your house without your mom having to tell you she may give you some money or tell you how much she appreciates it. But you never expect some thing in return. If you expect something in return then you are just doing it for the benefit of you being rewarded. And you will be considered a gold digger.
